This collection of essays was written to mark the fortieth anniversary of the Second General Conference of Latin American Bishops, which convened at Medellín, Colombia, in 1968. It appears to have been a time full of zeal for emancipation, of liberation from every form of servitude, of personal maturity and of collective integration. The colloquium at the Milltown Institute, Dublin, which led to this book, sought to do precisely that: to establish where liberation theology now stands by questioning whether it really is a significant theological and ecclesial movement or merely a moment whose time has passed, and to investigate its enduring legacy.

Alan Bilton is the author of two novels, "The Known and Unknown Sea" (2014), variously compared to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, the 1902 movie, A Trip to the Moon, and Dante's Inferno, and "The Sleepwalkers' Ball" (2009) which one critic described as "Franz Kafka meets Mary Poppins." As a writer, he is obviously a hard man to pin down. He is also the author of books on Silent Film Comedy, Contemporary Fiction, and America in the 1920s. Over the last ten years, the significance of this theme of research has been reinforced thanks to the impressive development of geodynamic studies following the general change in ideas brought about by plate tectonics. The present-day geothermal studies, conducted simultaneously in the oceanic and continental domains, have provided it with an argumentation and richer references.

John Neely Bryan built the first cabin on the side of the Trinity River in 1841, and by 1845, when Texas was admitted to the Union, Dallas County and the town of Dallas were established, taking their name from President James K. Polk's vice-president George Mifflin Dallas. This collection uses vintage photographs chosen from nearly a million cataloged in the Dallas Public Library from the early days of photography up until the 1960s. Sites include Oak Cliff Viaduct, Founder's Cabin, the Old Red Courthouse, Dealey Plaza, Trinity River, Union Station, Lamar Street, Elm Street, Magnolia Petroleum building, Dallas Scottish Rite, the Adolphus Hotel, Love Field, Dallas Hall, and the State Fairgrounds.
